Every pay period, you can make an automatic pretax contribution to the HSA, and use that money later to pay for eligible healthcare expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eligible healthcare expenses may include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Medical, dental and vision deductibles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medical, dental and vision coinsurance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dental and vision copays<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Find a complete list of qualified expenses at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.irs.gov<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-block\"><button class=\"wp-block-wps-content-blocks-accordion accordion-button\" title=\"Toggle Accordion\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"accordion-content_325\"><span class=\"accordion-title\" id=\"accordion-title_414\">City and Employee Contributions<\/span><span class=\"accordion-icon\"><\/span><\/button><div class=\"accordion-content\" id=\"accordion-content_325\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title_414\" role=\"region\">\n<p>The City of Atlanta will contribute to your HSA each year \u2014 $600 for individuals, and $900 for families (employee plus one or more dependents).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You also can contribute to the HSA up to certain IRS limits. In 2025,&nbsp;<strong>after the City\u2019s contribution<\/strong>, you can contribute an additional:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>$3,800 for individual coverage<\/strong>\u00a0($4,300 IRS limit minus $600 City contribution)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>$7,800 for family coverage<\/strong>\u00a0($8,550 IRS limit minus $900 City contribution)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are or will be age 55 in 2025, you also can contribute an additional $1,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You are responsible for monitoring the amount deposited into your HSA each calendar year. Keep in mind that&nbsp;if your employer contributes funds, those also count toward the maximum. If you exceed the maximum contribution limit, there is a penalty imposed by the IRS.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-block\"><button class=\"wp-block-wps-content-blocks-accordion accordion-button\" title=\"Toggle Accordion\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"accordion-content_7\"><span class=\"accordion-title\" id=\"accordion-title_831\">Paying for Expenses<\/span><span class=\"accordion-icon\"><\/span><\/button><div class=\"accordion-content\" id=\"accordion-content_7\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title_831\" role=\"region\">\n<p>You will receive a debit card from Health Equity, the HSA plan vendor, to pay for qualified medical expenses using your HSA. And, if you have money in your HSA, the plan will automatically draw from your HSA funds to pay for eligible expenses before billing you for healthcare services and supplies.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-block\"><button class=\"wp-block-wps-content-blocks-accordion accordion-button\" title=\"Toggle Accordion\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"accordion-content_89\"><span class=\"accordion-title\" id=\"accordion-title_157\">Funds Are Yours to Keep<\/span><span class=\"accordion-icon\"><\/span><\/button><div class=\"accordion-content\" id=\"accordion-content_89\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title_157\" role=\"region\">\n<p>Since the HSA is a personal bank account, the funds are yours to keep even if you change medical plans or leave employment with the City. Funds roll over from year-to-year, and you can use them for eligible healthcare expenses even into retirement.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-block\"><button class=\"wp-block-wps-content-blocks-accordion accordion-button\" title=\"Toggle Accordion\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"accordion-content_716\"><span class=\"accordion-title\" id=\"accordion-title_565\">Tax Savings<\/span><span class=\"accordion-icon\"><\/span><\/button><div class=\"accordion-content\" id=\"accordion-content_716\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title_565\" role=\"region\">\n<p>Health Savings Accounts are triple-tax free.&nbsp;Setting aside a little money in an HSA now can pay off in a big way later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It\u2019s tax-free when it goes in<\/strong>. You can put money into your HSA on a before-tax basis through convenient payroll deductions. Not only do you save money on qualified healthcare expenses, but your taxable income is lowered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It\u2019s tax-free as it grows<\/strong>. You earn tax-free interest on your money. The interest you earn even earns interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It\u2019s tax-free when you spend it<\/strong>. When you spend your HSA on qualified healthcare expenses, you don\u2019t pay any taxes. That means you\u2019re saving money on things like your medical, dental and vision coinsurance and deductibles.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-block\"><button class=\"wp-block-wps-content-blocks-accordion accordion-button\" title=\"Toggle Accordion\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"accordion-content_573\"><span class=\"accordion-title\" id=\"accordion-title_928\">Rules About HSA Eligibility<\/span><span class=\"accordion-icon\"><\/span><\/button><div class=\"accordion-content\" id=\"accordion-content_573\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title_928\" role=\"region\">\n<p>To be eligible to contribute to an HSA, you must enroll in the Anthem BCBS HDHP or Kaiser HMO HDHP and remain continuously enrolled in that plan for the entire plan year. If you\u2019re covered by a second medical plan, it also must be a high-deductible option for you to be eligible for an HSA.
